Philippines is the only Christian country in Asia. The people are prayerful. They pray to the statues or images of Santo Kristo (the young Jesus), Black Nazarene (Jesus before his death), the Virgin Mary in Fatima, Portugal, Lourdes, etc.…, to Saints on their feast days.
How come after centuries of praying, the country is in a pitiful state compared to her neighboring countries? In the fifties, the country was second only to Japan in terms of wealth! What have we done wrong since then? Wasn’t praying enough?
Second Chronicles 7:14 says that:
“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek My Face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.”
There is no question that we are God’s people. We Filipinos humble ourselves and pray. But majority neither seek God’s face nor turn from our wicked ways.
How so? Look at our politicians. We vote for them and forgive them their sins. Each time.
Even Jesus would not be as forgiving as we Filipinos are. Remember him overturning the moneylenders’ tables in the Temple at Jerusalem.
So, should we wonder why God may have forsaken us?
