In May 2016, our new President handed the police a “license to kill” corrupt Filipinos from all walks of life! Since his election, around 1000 bodies a month are being found on the streets of the towns and cities of the Philippines. It is clear that some criminal elements are using this “license to kill” for their own ends.
The Jury System works on the principle that everyone has the right to be judged by his or her equals. It is a judicial system in which ordinary people investigate all serious crimes and ordinary people give a verdict in all serious criminal trials.
Our constitution is based on the American constitution which has the Jury System as the fundamental principle in their constitution, that is_ “to judge and be judged by their own peers”.
“Collect signatures of 10% of the total number of Filipino registered voters for our petition to enact the NATIONAL JURY LAW (aka National Jury System Act). Three percent (3%) of these signatures must come from each of the current number of Congressional Districts in the country.”
Obviously, there are countries that run smoothly even without the benefits of a Jury System. However, those countries did not have a past which made graft and corruption endemic in the Filipino society.
As provided for by Article II Sec.1 of our 1987 Constitution, the Jury System will shift sovereignty (KAPANGYARIHAN NG MAMAMAYAN or Power of the people) from the government leaders to the People.
