Who we are

OUR REASON

Since the early twentieth century, many Filipino citizens have supported the adoption of a Jury System by the Filipino nation.

WPJI was started by Filipinos in the UK, linked with similar groups in the US. WPJI’s inspiration was a recognition of the distinct difference between the US or UK judicial systems compared with the Filipino one.

That difference includes the following circumstances:

• The unrestrained flouting of existing laws by Filipino politicians of all parties,
• The blatant corruption of most Filipino judges’ unaccountable delays to even the simplest case in a Filipino court,
• The lack of involvement of the average Filipino citizen in the operation of his or her system of justice, and the
• Politicians use their control of justice to keep control of power that lawyers go along with it because they are greedy and lazy.

Consequently, criminality has become rampant and the law has become a joke.

WPJI and similar advocates in UK and US feel that only targeted reform of the judicial system can arrest the downward spiral of our society.

Filipinos in the US and UK have seen and experienced a Jury System in action. We believe that if it works in those democratic countries, it should also work in the Philippines even if we have just a quasi-form of democracy.

Remember, this system worked effectively in the US during the Wild West era.
Other judicial systems would have collapsed amid the uncontrolled lawlessness

WPJI believes that if the Jury System was good enough for Clint Eastwood all those years ago, it should be good enough for President Duterte now.
